Studio AOAO is an interdisciplinary studio combining art and design. It was created by Alicja Strzyzynska and Onur Iseri in Amsterdam in 2020. The studio specializes in crafting sculptural pieces, innovatively experimenting with the functionality of sculpture and the essence of furniture. Ikigai is a large handmade gypsum pendant lamp part of the Wonder Things Collection. The contemporary piece embodies the traditional Japanese philosophy of well-being, inviting viewers to engage in introspection and self-reflection. Inspired by the Japanese concept of “Ikigai,” meaning “life’s purpose,” we set out to capture the delicate balance between the search for one’s purpose in life and the adversity that comes with it. The sculptural form of the lamp is a result of extensive experimentation with light and form, resulting in a toned down glow that diffuses throughout the space. The piece was carved while suspended in air to to maintain continuity. 2023. LIMITED Edition of 8. Available in all standard finishes with custom materials upon request.
